Fundraising, flying (and fun) at Farnborough

AWB had a successful weekend at Farnborough in July on our 'patch' on the EADS stand, thanks to the interest and support from Nicole and Eric from EADS. The centre of attention in Hall 4 was the area around the EADS and Rolls-Royce stands and the spot offered to AWB to pitch our little stall was right at the epicentre.

On the first day, Saturday 19th July, a trustee and two volunteers arrived to set up the stall and a crowd gathered immediately, with some even requesting to buy Amy Bears before they could be put on display. Our 'wheel of fortune', where an Amy Bear could be won for the price of 50p per spin, was also very popular. There were also 'remove before flight' key tags for sale and, in spite of the fact that EADS were giving them away free, we still managed to do a brisk trade. Some quiet moments were experienced, as when the Red Arrows were flying, but most of the time the stall was very busy and our day ended early when all the bears had gone.

On Sunday reinforcements arrived in the form of three other trustees, and the same brisk trade ensued. Once again bears were being sold as they were being displayed and the 'wheel of fortune' was just as popular, especially with the children. The second day ended even earlier when, once again, trade ceased as all the bears had been sold.

Thanks to everyone at EADS, the event was a great success and AWB raised in excess of £600 over the two days. The kindness and support from all at the EADS stand was exceptional and was much appreciated. To cap it all, EADS's neighbours at the Rolls-Royce stand invited Amy Bear to fly with the Red Arrows. Amy was auctioned by Rolls-Royce with autographs of the Red Arrows team and raised £200 for AWB. Thanks to EADs support, and the kindness of Martin at Rolls-Royce, a very successful weekend for AWB indeed.
