8th ASICS British 10K London Run, 6th July 2008
Pierre and Romain run 10K for AWB
Two intrepid Air France employees, Pierre Jauffret and Romain Kusek, ran on behalf of AWB in the 8th ASICS British 10K London Run on 6th July. The two young 'athletes', Pierre from Cargo Logistics and Romain from Head Office, began their preparations at the beginning of the year and, after six months of intensive training, were ready to face the challenge of the race.
AWB's little team were competing against a few other participants, 25,000 in round figures, amongst whom were Olympic athletes and celebrities from stage and screen. Apart from having fun, the main purpose for those taking part was to raise funds for charity and this year the official charity of the 10k London Run was The Multiple Sclerosis Trust. Runners, however, were also supporting a further 500 nominated charities and over a million pounds of funding was raised. AWB were, unfortunately, too late to register as an official participant, but Pierre and Romain kindly organised their own personal sponsorship with friends and colleagues. An amazing sum of over £250 was pledged and the two runners proudly wore their AWB T-shirts on the race day.
The race began at 9.30 am by the Hard Rock Café at Piccadilly and, from there, proceeded down Pall Mall to Trafalgar Square, along the Embankment to the City, passing St Paul's and Tower Bridge, and then via the London Eye to Whitehall. The 10k race was won by the Olympic men's marathon champion, Stefano Baldini, in 30 minutes and 6 seconds.
Romain, with race number 22905, was the favourite of the AWB pair and the time target for Pierre, with race number 22902, was to run faster, but it was not to be, and the two completed the race in a very respectable 48 minutes and 55 minutes respectively. The runners, however, achieved their shared target of raising funds for AWB by running the distance and also received their medals for finishing the race.
In spite of the poor 'summer' weather, Pierre and Romain found it a very good experience, and it was an excellent performance all round from both of them. A very big Thank You goes to the two from all at AWB for their great efforts in raising funds, and for their interest, support and stamina!
Well done and Thank you!
