Aircraft Missions

Aviation Without Borders in the UK is one of a 'family' of European charities known collectively as ASF Europe, in honour of the founding member Aviation Sans Frontières of France. The ASF Europe group is jointly cooperating to undertake aircraft missions under a common operating policy.

ASF France and ASF Belgium lead the field and have been operating missions with small fleets of light aircraft, mostly in the French speaking countries of central Africa, for many years. The Dutch and the British are now in the process of raising funds to purchase an aircraft with a planned date for the commencement of operations some time in the future.

The United Nations (UN) now requires that small aircraft operators obtain an Aircraft Operating Certificate (AOC) and the plan is for the ASF European group to operate under the umbrella of a joint AOC and a Part 145 certified aircraft maintenance company who will maintain all the aircraft.

In the meantime, however, a pool of pilots is being established to provide the group with qualified personnel. Interested applicants will require a minimum of 500 hours and, as all training is being conducted by our European colleagues at the moment, a good working knowledge of French is essential.
