Aviation Without Borders in the UK is one of a ‘family’ of similar charities known collectively as ASF International, in honour of the founding member Aviation Sans Frontières of France. The ASF International group jointly co-operates with aircraft operations and cargo shipments.
ASF France and ASF Belgium lead the field and have been operating missions with small fleets of light aircraft, mostly in the French speaking countries of central Africa, for many years. All organisations operate jointly under a charitable company known as ASF International to which funding from all groups is channelled and an international committee oversees operations. ASF International operates under a joint Aircraft Operating Certificate (AOC) with a Part 145 certified aircraft maintenance company and suitably qualified pilots are selected from an international pool.
